The subscription process is easier if I set up recurring payments, so that is currently the only option.

I understand that some people may not want auto renew enabled, and that's why I've made it very simple to disable. The subscription process contains a link to disable auto renew, and there is another link in the confirmation email after subscribing. I hope this is a satisfactory solution for you.
